Revealed on Tuesday, the Aspire One is Acer's brand new communication device designed to make your online activities fast, simple and cool. Calling it a Mobile Internet Device, the Aspire One utilizes Intel's new Atom processor which is designed exactly for this kind of small and ultra portable computers.
The Aspire One comes in 2 flavours, a Linpus Linux Lite version with 512MB of DDR2 RAM and 8GB flash drive and a Windows XP version with 1.5GB DDR2 and 80GB hard disk drive.
Not that it matters much, since the Linux OS that comes with the budget version is fully functional as an communication device with a integrated user interface for easy navigation and use.
The best thing about the OS though is the seamless file management. What this means is that if you think the 8GB is too little, just slot in a 16GB flash memory card, the OS automatically merges the 8GB and the 16GB to give u a smacking 24GB of flash memory space in ONE seamless drive.
It also features an email client that lets you manage up to 6 emails accounts that includes all the popular email (eg. Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.). Chatting is also covered as it comes with its own Messenger that is able to connect to virtually all other messenger currently being used.
The LCD that comes equipped is a LED backlight 8.9" WSVGA TFT which supports up to 1024x600 pixels (its native mode). Other features standard on the Aspire One is a 5-in1 card reader, integrated Acer Crystal Eye webcam and built-in stereo speakers and microphone. There is also a rumor that a later model will be launched with a WiMax and 3G modem built-in.
The suggested retail pricing for the Aspire One (Linux Version) is RM1399 while the Windows version will be launched sometime this year.
